I used to believe purpose was something you had to discover. If you could do that, your pathway would be clear, the way ahead suddenly obvious. And to a certain extent that was my experience when I left corporate life in 2014 to set up So What Do You Do?.
But recently, I had a new and valuable insight on a Thinking Partnership Workshop I attended. It dawned on me, during a very powerful thinking session, that in fact purpose was more like a seed that needs constant nurturing. In order to feel reconnected to my purpose, it was more a matter of seeing it as an ongoing relationship to cultivate – a bit like a marriage – rather than a treasure that once discovered was “accomplished”.
